Dr. Fox earned his Medical Degree from the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed an internship at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, followed by a four-year dermatology residency at the New York University School of Medicine. A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Fox is known nationwide as a leading authority in the field of dermatology, with an expertise in skin cancer, cosmetic surgery and laser procedures. He has been an expert resource for the public interest on dermatologic topics for the major television networks, radio stations and national newspapers and magazines. Dr. Fox has received multiple research and clinical awards including recognition from Top Doctors, Castle Connolly Top Doctors, RealSelf Top Doctors, Doctor’s Choice Awards, Who’s Who, the International Society of Dermatology and the prestigious Husic Award for most outstanding research. In addition, his service has been recognized by multiple hospitals, civic, educational and community organizations. Dr. Applebaum earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He graduated with honors and received special distinction for his intensive research in molecular biology. Dr. Applebaum completed his internal medicine internship at the New York University Medical Center and his dermatology residency at the University of Chicago. During his post-graduate training in Chicago, Dr. Applebaum conducted extensive research in his field, particularly in the area of melanoma, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of the National Cancer Institute. He has presented his findings at multiple conferences of the Chicago Dermatologic Society. With extensive training and experience in laser surgery and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Applebaum specializes in facial rejuvenation and scar treatment. Dr. Barazani earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was also honored with the Alfred Schwartz Award for Pathology. He served his internal medicine residency at University Hospital Stony Brook, NY. He continued his training as associate physician at The Rockefeller University Laboratory for Investigative Dermatology in NY, where he completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship before completing his dermatology residency at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Barazani has conducted research work on skin disorders and wound healing, with his findings published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and other peer-reviewed medical journals. He was one of the first physicians on Long Island to perform cosmetic Botox® treatments in 1996. He is recognized by Botox® Cosmetic as a member of the National Education Faculty, an honor limited to very few physicians nationwide. Dr. DiSpaltro joined Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in 2003. He is experienced in many areas of medical as well as cosmetic dermatology and offers his patients a wide range of treatments available in our offices. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Binghamton University and pursued his medical degree at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. Dr. DiSpaltro went on to complete a sub-internship as well as an internship in general surgery at Downstate Medical Center. He joined the United States Army Medical Corps where he was a Captain and served as the Chief of the clinic at The Kimbrough Army Hospital in Maryland. Upon completion of his duties in the military, Dr. DiSpaltro furthered his education through an internal medicine residency at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. He practiced Emergency Medicine for several years while pursuing research in immunology as well as in clinical trials at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York where he worked with world renowned dermatologists. He has published many articles in peer reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and has given presentations at the national meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology. In 1999 Dr. DiSpaltro went on to further his studies by returning to a residency in dermatology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York where he completed his training. Dr. Suzanne J. Friedler is a board-certified fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, with expertise in many areas of medical and cosmetic dermatology. She is a lecturer at national medical conferences and an instructor for three residency programs in New York. After completing a bachelor of science in biochemistry at Binghamton University, Dr. Friedler went on to the New York University School of Medicine where she received academic awards and participated in honors program research. She completed her dermatology residency at Downstate Medical Center where she also participated in clinical research and was the author of multiple publications. Dr. Friedler offers patients state-of-the-art procedures including Fraxel non-ablative resurfacing, Thermage skin tightening, endovenous laser vein treatment and general laser therapy for scars, tattoo removal, hair removal, and treatments for rosacea, stretch marks, acne, melasma, brown spots, angiomas, and many other conditions. She has served as an injection trainer for Botox® Cosmetic and is adept with the latest innovations in skin fillers. She treats both adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Joerg is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Cosmetic Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City. She teaches the dermatology residents cosmetic procedures such as Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Radiesse. She also instructs the dermatology residents in many laser procedures for rejuvenation such as laser resurfacing, hair removal, tattoo removal, vascular lesions and sun spot removal. Dr. Joerg graduated magna cum laude from Rhode Island’s Brown University. During her studies there she participated in special clinical research involving skin grafts and hand reconstruction. She pursued medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, where she earned her medical degree and was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her medical internship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, followed by a dermatology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. Dr. Joerg spent a year in France, where she undertook advanced dermatological studies at L’Hôpital St. Louis in Paris, the largest dermatological training center in France. With a keen interest in fine arts, Dr. Joerg spent more than a year in Italy studying sculpture and painting, primarily of the face and human form. Dr. Troccoli was born in Los Angeles, California, and attended Hollywood High School, where he graduated with honors. He is the elder of two brothers, and is the first in his immediate family to attend college. He attended Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut , where he graduated summa cum laude with distinction in psycho-biology. He earned his Medical Degree from Harvard University in Boston and was awarded a student research scholarship, dedicating an additional year of studies to Photomedicine. Photomedicine is a recently developed area of study, focusing on the effects of electromagnetic radiation, such as ultraviolet, visible and infrared light, mediated through the skin. He conducted pioneering research in the development of multiple-pulsed laser technology, and was awarded a Residency Research Award by the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Troccoli remained in the Boston area for his postgraduate studies, completing an internship at Boston City Hospital and a residency through the Harvard Dermatology Program. He has given presentations and collaborated on publications in the field of dermatological laser surgery. Dr. Troccoli is board certified in dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. As an undergraduate at Harvard University, Dr. Valerie Goldburt began her career studying the mechanisms of genetic switches, completing her studies in biochemistry with honors. She continued her interest in science and medicine as a graduate student at Columbia University in New York, where she completed a Master’s degree studying the effects of ultraviolet light on cancer proteins. Dr. Goldburt then earned an M.D. from Downstate Medical Center, where she also completed a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology, studying immune defense mechanisms. During her six years there, she was her medical school’s representative at the American Association of Medical Colleges conferences around the nation. An outstanding scholar, she received grants from the Howard Hughes Institute and the NIH for her undergraduate education and her medical school career was fully funded by several grants, as well as the NIH. Dr. Goldburt completed her internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and a dermatology residency at Downstate Medical Center. She enjoys traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and has given many presentations at professional meetings. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatology Foundation. Dr. Goldburt particularly enjoys intricate surgical and cosmetic procedures, having highly-trained dexterity from her years as a conservatory-trained pianist. She has a special interest in skin care products and has worked as a consultant on skin care for cosmetics corporations Lancôme and L’Oreal. Subsequent to graduating summa cum laude from Yale University, Dr. Bowe was awarded a full tuition merit-based scholarship to attend the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Upon graduating at the top of her class, she pursued her dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where she currently holds the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology, teaching laser and cosmetic procedures to future dermatologists. Dr. Morales is an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Department of Medicine Upstate Medical Campus, State University of New York, where he teaches dermatology to residents and medical students. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and his Master of Science from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. After his medical training at Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Morales completed his internship at Yale University and his dermatology residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He subsequently was a staff fellow at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Morales has been practicing medical and surgical dermatology for about 10 years and has established a database to profile pigmented lesions such as melanoma and dysplastic nevi as well as Basal Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinoma incidence in the Binghamton area in upstate New York. His commitment to teaching has earned him the “William E. Clark, MD” recognition “for excellence and dedication in teaching” in 2008 and 2012. He has also received the 2004, 2006 and 2007 recognition for active teaching from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Prevention and early detection of skin cancer has been a very important component of Dr. Morales’ practice and he has volunteered in skin cancer screening not only in Binghamton, NY, but also at the “Immigrantes Hispanos con Acceso a la Salud” in Elizabeth, NJ. Dr. Morales has presented and authored several publications on various topics of clinical dermatology, skin cancer, and skin immunology in peer-reviewed journals such as: the Journal of Immunology, the American Journal of Physiology, Gastroenterology and others. Dr. Morales and his wife have two teenage children and in his free time, Dr. Morales enjoys volunteering for the needy at a local free clinic in Binghamton for the uninsured and in Honduras as part of the Cornell University’s Global Medical Brigades. Dr. Papantoniou is board-certified in dermatology and specializes in all areas of medical dermatology for adults and children, the prevention and treatment of skin cancer, cosmetic dermatology and laser surgery. She began her undergraduate education at NYU, where she completed a double major in Biology and Hellenic studies with honors. During her medical school training at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn she quickly developed a passion for Dermatology. Dr. Papantoniou has contributed to the History of Dermatology Society’s annual conferences with presentations focusing on the history of dermatologic diseases, ancient skin practices, and therapeutics. The award for excellence in Dermatology was bestowed upon Dr. Papantoniou at the time of her graduation from medical school. She then completed a year of internal medicine at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital. Dr. Papantoniou completed her residency in Dermatology with the award for Outstanding Performance as a resident in Dermatology. During her training she learned how to treat patients from around the world with care and compassion. Her work has been published in peer reviewed journals, and has also presented at professional conferences. She maintains special interests in both medical and aesthetic dermatology. When she is not practicing Dermatology, Dr. Papantoniou is also a talented artist and enjoys painting and spending time with her family.
Dr. Levine is a New York native, growing up in Merrick, Long Island. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Binghamton University. He completed his Master’s program in biomedical sciences at Barry University and later went on to receive his medical degree from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2002. Dr. Levine became board certified in Family Practice at Long Beach Medical Center in Long Beach, NY and later became dually board certified in Dermatology. He is experienced in many areas of medical and surgical dermatology with an interest in cosmetics. Dr. Levine has presented and authored several publications on various topics in clinical dermatology. He enjoys playing the piano, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family.
Dr. Chan received his A.B. in Biochemical Sciences with Honors from Harvard. He received a joint M.D. and Ph.D. from Boston University, where he also held 1 of 10 national fellowships from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) and was also a recipient of the annual Tai Foundation Scholarship for Merit & Achievement at Boston University School of Medicine. At Boston University, his research focused on the development of innovative therapies to target specific cancer cells using recombinant fusion proteins. After medical school, he was the recipient of an NIH-funded training grant under the mentorship of Kevin Cooper, MD, focusing upon mechanisms of psoriasis and also conducted clinical studies regarding cutaneous lymphomas. He is a reviewer for Archives of Dermatology and Clinical Cancer Research and has been nationally recognized by the AAAAI and the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation, and the International Society for Cutaneous Lymphomas. He has spoken at several national and international meetings, has received NIH grant funding, and has published in several key peer-reviewed journals, including JAMA Dermatology and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. A native of upstate New York, Dr. Chan moved to the Midwest to complete his residency in dermatology at Ohio State University before returning to the East Coast. He maintains interests in psoriasis, cutaneous neoplasms, and lasers/cosmetic dermatology and currently resides in Manhattan.
Dr. Au graduated summa cum laude from Cornell University and obtained her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She completed her dermatology residency at University of Illinois at Chicago, and served as chief resident her senior year. During residency, she presented at various local and national meetings and also published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Au is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. With a special interest in laser and cosmetic dermatology, in addition to general dermatology, she has joined Advanced Dermatology as the laser and cosmetic fellow to pursue her clinical interests. She is fluent in Cantonese Chinese and conversant in Mandarin Chinese.
Dr. Lefkowitz is a summa cum laude graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, where he earned his Medical Degree. As a student at SUNY, he was honored with the prestigious Andrew T. Salzberg Award for Superior Achievement in Medical Studies. His medical internship was completed at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park. Dr. Lefkowitz attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to complete a residency in dermatology. In his final year, he was appointed Chief Resident in Dermatology.To further his postgraduate training, Dr. Lefkowitz served a one-year fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at East Setauket University Hospital, NY. This is an American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) approved program for Mohs. Dr. Elan B. Singer is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Singer received his undergraduate degree in government from Hamilton College and his medical degree from the University of Vermont. He completed plastic and reconstructive surgery training at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York where he remained for further instruction in aesthetic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Although Dr. Singer practices the full range of plastic and reconstructive surgery, he specializes in surgery of the breast and body. Christina is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She scored in the top six percent of examinees nationwide on her certification exam. Christina is a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner in both New York and Florida. Her Master of Science in Nursing was completed at Frontier Nursing University in Kentucky where she is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Her nursing education was received through Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences in Orlando, Florida, where she also worked for five years. Christina received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a minor in Education from the University of Florida. She graduated Cum Laude and was an active member in the Golden Key International Honor Society. Christina selected dermatology as her field after combating cystic acne and skin cancer. She comes to Advanced Dermatology, P.C. with experience in adult and pediatric dermatology from Miami, where she worked closely with board-certified dermatologists to ensure that all skin related concerns were evaluated and treated with the best quality of care. As a nurse practitioner, Christina prides herself in providing the highest level of compassionate care to her patients. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, scuba diving, bicycling, traveling, and Gator football.
Melissa joined Advanced Dermatology in 1995 and worked as a Medical Assistant for many years. She completed the Physician Assistant Program at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and received her certification before returning to Advanced Dermatology as a Physician Assistant. During her studies at Weill Medical College, she performed clinical rotations in all major fields of medicine, working at various hospitals throughout the New York City region. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Surgical Physician Assistants. Melissa has thorough knowledge of the practice of dermatology, including Mohs skin cancer surgery and has worked with thousands of patients at Advanced Dermatology. With the broad range of conditions that are managed and treated here, she enjoys the variety of her work, with an expertise in acne, warts, mild chemical peels, and laser hair removal. Melissa takes the extra step with all patients to get to know them and their families on a personal level. She treats each patient as if they were a member of her own family: with love, compassion and honesty. Christopher Byrne, MPAS, RPA-C Physician Assistant
Mr. Byrne has been a Certified Physician Assistant at Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery since 2004. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from New York University, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the New York Institute of Technology. Mr. Byrne also completed a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies with a concentration in dermatology from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. He has completed clerkships in every major branch of medicine, including internal medicine, pediatrics and dermatology. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York Society of Physician Assistants. He is a founding member of the New York Dermatology Physician Assistants, and currently serves as its Vice President. With an innate compassion for others, Mr. Byrne became a Physician Assistant to enable him to help people, particularly with their skin problems. As a teen, he suffered with acne and knows firsthand how skin problems can affect a person’s daily life. Mr. Byrne grew up in the Long Island area, where he and his wife are now raising their children. In their spare time they enjoy outdoor activities such as kayaking and camping.
Ms. Wong is a certified Physician Assistant. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Touro College and continued on to receive her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies, also from Touro College. Ms. Wong has comprehensive experience in medical and cosmetic dermatology for all ages. Her clinical interests include psoriasis, vitiligo, laser treatments, acne, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, biopsies, surgical excisions, Botox injections for hyperhidrosis, and patch testing. Ms. Wong prides herself on providing patients with individualized care, making each patient feel as if they were her only patient.
Jie is a board certified physician assistant with a master’s degree in physician assistant studies, which she received from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2011. She has since then been practicing both medical and cosmetic dermatology. Jie completed her bachelor’s degree in medicine in China, where she received intense medical training including clinical rotations. As one of a few successful graduates, she came to the U.S. and completed her first master’s degree in human nutrition at Kansas State University, where she was involved in a research program to study the connection between diet and skin cancer. Her research results were published in prestigious biochemical journals and they are still influencing the field. Being an active member of several professional organizations, she is well informed of new skin treatments that could benefit her patients. Beyond her office hours, Jie leads her own team — a dog and a cat to cultivate and prune her homegrown plants and flowers. Ms. Petryshyn is a certified Physician Assistant with a Master’s Degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Montclair State University. Ms. Petryshyn has worked in the medical field for many years. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New Jersey Society of Physician Assistants. She enjoys working in dermatology due to its diversity and she likes to stay current on the latest treatments. She is fluent in Ukrainian. Ms. Petryshyn provides care to people of all ages with compassion, kindness and understanding, making everyone feel as comfortable as possible.
