Dr. Fox earned his Medical Degree from the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed an internship at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, followed by a four-year dermatology residency at the New York University School of Medicine. A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Fox is known nationwide as a leading authority in the field of dermatology, with an expertise in skin cancer, cosmetic surgery and laser procedures. He has been an expert resource for the public interest on dermatologic topics for the major television networks, radio stations and national newspapers and magazines. Dr. Fox has received multiple research and clinical awards including recognition from Top Doctors, Who’s Who, the International Society of Dermatology and the prestigious Husic Award for most outstanding research. In addition, his service has been recognized by multiple hospitals, civic, educational and community organizations. He has been on the advisory boards of both the Psoriasis Foundation and National Rosacea Foundation, among others. With an extensive background in research, Dr. Fox has presented his findings on a wide range of subjects from laser techniques and cosmetic procedures to stretch marks and scars. He has been Chief of Dermatology of several major teaching hospitals including Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens and Jamaica Medical Center and is currently on the staff of ten NY area hospitals.In 1987, Dr. Fox founded the AAD Melanoma/Skin Cancer Prevention Program in Queens, NY. He is an educator as much as he is a physician and he has worked tirelessly to develop effective community screening programs and to increase skin cancer awareness and prevention. He later developed a dermatology and skin cancer research and advocacy forum for patients and physicians, called the New Age Skin Research Foundation (www.newageskin.org). He serves as President of the Foundation. Dr. Fox is founder and director of Advanced Dermatology, P.C. and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery. He and his associates have expanded the practice into one of largest in the region for dermatology, laser & cosmetic surgery. Dr. Applebaum earned his Medical Degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He graduated with honors and received special distinction for his intensive research in molecular biology. Dr. Applebaum completed his internal medicine internship at the New York University Medical Center and his dermatology residency at the University of Chicago. During his post-graduate training in Chicago, Dr. Applebaum conducted extensive research in his field, particularly in the area of melanoma, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of the National Cancer Institute . He has presented his findings at multiple conferences of the Chicago Dermatologic Society. With extensive training and experience in laser surgery and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Applebaum specializes in facial rejuvenation and scar treatment. He joined our team at Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in 1999. Board certified in dermatology, Dr. Applebaum is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and is a graduate member of the American Medical Association and the Society for Investigative Dermatology.
Dr. Barazani earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was also honored with the Alfred Schwartz Award for Pathology. He served his internal medicine residency at University Hospital Stony Brook, NY. He continued his training as associate physician at The Rockefeller University Laboratory for Investigative Dermatology in NY, where he completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship before completing his dermatology residency at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Barazani has conducted research work on skin disorders and wound healing, with his findings published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and other peer-reviewed medical journals. He was one of the first physicians on Long Island to perform cosmetic Botox ® treatments in 1996. He is recognized by Botox ® Cosmetic as a member of the National Education Faculty, an honor limited to very few physicians nationwide. Dr. Barazani has a clinical interest in scar treatments, using various lasers, fillers and other innovative modalities to reduce the appearance of scarring. Dr. Barazani has been a member of Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery since 1994. Dr. DiSpaltro joined Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in 2003. He is experienced in many areas of medical as well as cosmetic dermatology and offers his patients a wide range of treatments available in our offices. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Binghamton University and pursued his medical degree at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. Dr. DiSpaltro went on to complete a sub-internship as well as an internship in General Surgery at Downstate Medical Center. He joined the United States Army Medical Corps where he was a Captain and served as the Chief of the clinic at The Kimbrough Army Hospital in Maryland.Upon completion of his duties in the military, Dr. DiSpaltro furthered his education through an internal medicine residency at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. He practiced Emergency Medicine for several years while pursuing research in immunology as well as in clinical trials at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York where he worked with world renowned dermatologists. He has published many articles in peer reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and has given presentations at the national meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology.In 1999 Dr. DiSpaltro went on to further his studies by returning to a residency in dermatology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York where he completed his training. He joined Advanced Dermatology shortly after to offer his expertise in medical as well as state of the art cosmetic procedures. Dr. Fried graduated magna cum laude from Manhattan’s Touro College before earning his Medical Degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. He completed his general surgery internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and served a dermatology residency at New York Medical College in Valhalla. He worked as attending physician in the Emergency Room of both Jamaica Hospital and Bellevue Hospital in New York. Dr. Fried joined Advanced Dermatology, P.C. and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in 1990. He is board certified in dermatology and has special interest and expertise in cosmetic and laser surgery, varicose vein treatment and autologous fat transplantation and meso therapy (vitamin injection to dissolve subcutaneous fat).A dedicated researcher in his field, Dr. Fried has conducted numerous studies on dermatological diseases and has done special investigative research on wounds and burn healing. His work has been published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases and Annals of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Suzanne J. Friedler is a board certified fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, with expertise in many areas of medical and cosmetic dermatology. She is a lecturer at national medical conferences and an instructor for three residency programs in New York. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Binghamton University, Dr. Friedler went on to the New York University School of Medicine where she received academic awards and participated in honors program research. She completed her dermatology residency at Downstate Medical Center where she also participated in clinical research and was the author of multiple publications. Dr. Friedler offers patients state of the art procedures including Fraxel non-ablative resurfacing, Thermage skin tightening, endovenous laser vein treatment and general laser therapy for scars, tattoos, hair removal, rosacea, stretch marks, acne, melasma, brown spots, angiomas, and many other conditions. Dr. Joerg is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Cosmetic Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City. She teaches the dermatology residents cosmetic procedures such as Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Radiesse. She also instructs the dermatology residents in many laser procedures for rejuvenation such as laser resurfacing, hair removal, tattoo removal, vascular lesions and sun spot removal. Dr. Joerg graduated magna cum laude from Rhode Island’s Brown University. During her studies there she participated in special clinical research involving skin grafts and hand reconstruction. She pursued medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, where she earned her Medical Degree and was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her medical internship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, followed by a dermatology residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. Dr. Troccoli was born in Los Angeles, California, and attended Hollywood High School, where he graduated with honors. He is the elder of two brothers, and is the first in his immediate family to attend college. He attended Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut , where he graduated summa cum laude with distinction in psycho-biology. He earned his Medical Degree from Harvard University in Boston and was awarded a student research scholarship, dedicating an additional year of studies to Photomedicine. Photomedicine is a recently developed area of study, focusing on the effects of electromagnetic radiation, such as ultraviolet, visible and infrared light, mediated through the skin. He conducted pioneering research in the development of multiple-pulsed laser technology, and was awarded a Residency Research Award by the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Troccoli remained in the Boston area for his postgraduate studies, completing an internship at Boston City Hospital and a residency through the Harvard Dermatology Program. He has given presentations and collaborated on publications in the field of dermatological laser surgery. Dr. Troccoli is board certified in dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has worked as an associate at Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery since 1997. Dr. Troccoli has traveled extensively throughout the world and is fluent in Spanish.
As an undergraduate at Harvard University, Dr. Valerie Goldburt began her career studying the mechanisms of genetic switches, completing her studies in biochemistry with honors. She continued her interest in science and medicine as a graduate student at Columbia University in New York, where she completed a Master’s degree studying the effects of ultraviolet light on cancer proteins. Dr. Goldburt then earned an M.D. from Downstate Medical Center, where she also completed a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology, studying immune defense mechanisms. During her six years there, she was her medical school’s representative at the American Association of Medical Colleges conferences around the nation. An outstanding scholar, she received grants from the Howard Hughes Institute and the NIH for her undergraduate education and her medical school career was fully funded by several grants, as well as the NIH. Dr. Goldburt completed her internship at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and a dermatology residency at Downstate Medical Center. She enjoys traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and has given many presentations at professional meetings. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Dermatology Foundation. Dr. Goldburt particularly enjoys intricate surgical and cosmetic procedures, having highly-trained dexterity from her years as a conservatory-trained pianist. She has a special interest in skin care products and has worked as a consultant on skin care for cosmetics corporations Lancôme and L’Oreal. Dr. Goldburt is board certified in dermatology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She joined the practice at Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in 2007.
Dr. Paige Farkas is a board certified dermatologist with experience in all areas of medical, cosmetic and laser dermatology. The focus of her practice is general and cosmetic dermatology and skin cancer screening examinations utilizing dermatoscopy technology. She has strong expertise and special training in the use of facial fillers, cosmetic lasers and chemical peels and special certification in the use of Botox. She treats adults and children of all ages. She founded Comprehensive Dermatology and Laser Center in 1996 and built a busy and successful practice over the following decade. Dr. Farkas received her medical degree at Yeshiva University – Albert Einstein College of Medicine with distinction in research, and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her residency and served as chief resident in the Department of Dermatology at Albert Einstein. For many years, she worked as Clinical Instructor at Montefiore Medical Center, and supervised medical residents in the Dermatology Department. Dr. Barry Silver graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. He attended the Medical College of Virginia (Virginia Commonwealth University), where he earned his medical degree and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a Harvard University Dermatology residency program at Massachusetts General Hospital and earned his dermatology board certification in 1977. Dr. Silver was an active member of the Summit Medical Group in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey for over three decades. He provides medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology services to patients of all ages. His patient-focused philosophy is to always find the most efficient, cost-effective and complete resolution to the problem at hand. She was a participant in student research initiatives at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, receiving clinical honors, and remained at Massachusetts General Hospital to complete a dermatology research fellowship. Dr. Lieb continued her post-graduate studies in New York City at The Mount Sinai Hospital where she completed an internal medicine internship followed by a second research fellowship in the Department of Dermatology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where she focused on skin cancer diagnosis and treatments. She then completed a three-year dermatology residency at the New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia University. With an academic focus on research, Dr. Lieb has co-authored numerous articles. She has been widely published in the medical literature and has made many medical conference case presentations. Dr. Lieb is board certified in dermatology and is a member of the New York Academy of Medicine, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Morales is an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at the Department of Medicine Upstate Medical Campus, State University of New York, where he teaches dermatology to residents and medical students. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and his Master of Science from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. After his medical training at Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Morales completed his internship at Yale University and his dermatology residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He subsequently was a staff fellow at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Morales has been practicing medical and surgical dermatology for about 10 years and has established a database to profile pigmented lesions such as melanoma and dysplastic nevi as well as Basal Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinoma incidence in the Binghamton area in upstate New York. His commitment to teaching has earned him the “William E. Clark, MD” recognition “for excellence and dedication in teaching” in 2008 and 2012. He has also received the 2004, 2006 and 2007 recognition for active teaching from the American Academy of Family Physicians. Prevention and early detection of skin cancer has been a very important component of Dr. Morales’ practice and he has volunteered in skin cancer screening not only in Binghamton, NY, but also at the “Immigrantes Hispanos con Acceso a la Salud” in Elizabeth, NJ. Dr. Morales has presented and authored several publications on various topics of clinical dermatology, skin cancer, and skin immunology in peer-reviewed journals such as: the Journal of Immunology, the American Journal of Physiology, Gastroenterology and others. Dr. Morales and his wife have two teenage children and in his free time, Dr. Morales enjoys volunteering for the needy at a local free clinic in Binghamton for the uninsured and in Honduras as part of the Cornell University’s Global Medical Brigades. Dr. Papantoniou is board-certified in dermatology and specializes in all areas of medical dermatology for adults and children, the prevention and treatment of skin cancer, cosmetic dermatology and laser surgery. She began her undergraduate education at NYU, where she completed a double major in Biology and Hellenic studies with honors. During her medical school training at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn she quickly developed a passion for Dermatology. Dr. Papantoniou has contributed to the History of Dermatology Society’s annual conferences with presentations focusing on the history of dermatologic diseases, ancient skin practices, and therapeutics. The award for excellence in Dermatology was bestowed upon Dr. Papantoniou at the time of her graduation from medical school. She then completed a year of internal medicine at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital. Dr. Papantoniou completed her residency in Dermatology with the award for Outstanding Performance as a resident in Dermatology. During her training she learned how to treat patients from around the world with care and compassion. Her work has been published in peer reviewed journals, and has also presented at professional conferences. She maintains special interests in both medical and aesthetic dermatology. When she is not practicing Dermatology, Dr. Papantoniou is also a talented artist and enjoys painting and spending time with her family.
Dr. Alicia Cool is a board-certified dermatologist, specializing in all areas of medical dermatology, skin cancer prevention and treatment and cosmetic dermatology. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of science degree in biology, she went on to attend the University of Virginia School of Medicine where she obtained her M.D. Dr. Cool completed her internship in Internal Medicine, as well as her residency in Dermatology, at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor. She then completed a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery at Yale University. Dr. Cool is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Cool’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at professional conferences.
Dr. Felsenstein received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Bellevue Hospital and dermatology residency at Kings County SUNY Downstate. Dr. Felsenstein is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at New York University School of Medicine. He is affiliated with Tisch NYU hospital medical center and Bellevue hospital center. Dr. Felsenstein has been awarded “Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly, a prestigious title given to physicians. Dr. Felsenstein is the founder of our Ossining office. He is well-loved by his patients.
Dr. Levine is a New York native, growing up in Merrick, Long Island. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Binghamton University. He completed his Master’s program in biomedical sciences at Barry University and later went on to receive his medical degree from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2002. Dr Levine became board certified in Family Practice at Long Beach Medical Center in Long Beach, NY and later became dually board certified in Dermatology. He is experienced in many areas of medical and surgical dermatology with an interest in cosmetics. Dr Levine has presented and authored several publications on various topics in clinical dermatology. He enjoys playing the piano, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family. Dr Levine currently hosts the weekly radio show “Love Your Skin” on 103.9FM Long Island News Radio where he discusses various topics related to your skin.
Dr. Judy Hu is a board certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology who received her medical degree from East Tennessee State University, James H. Quillen College of Medicine. She completed her dermatology residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School and also did a year of clinical research at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, concentrating on psoriasis and quality of life issues. Dr. Hu was an Assistant Professor in the Division of Dermatology at East Tennessee State University before starting private practice. Dr. Hu specializes in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology with extensive experience in skin rejuvenation utilizing injections and laser therapy. She continues to stay at the forefront of the field and has been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Cosmetic Dermatology, Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, Cutis, Journal of Dermatologic Treatments, Skin and Aging, and International Journal of Dermatology. Dr. Smart was born in Salt Lake City and grew up climbing and skiing in the Rocky Mountains. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and must have enjoyed the harsh winters of the upper Midwest so much that he decided to stay in nearby Chicago to complete a residency in dermatology at the University of Illinois Chicago. With a particular interest in laser and cosmetic medicine, as well as general dermatology, Dr. Smart is excited to join the Advanced Dermatology team as the laser and cosmetic fellow.
Dr. Tesser is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is board certified in both dermatology and internal medicine. Dr. Tesser graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY at Stony Brook and continued his education at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he received his medical degree and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan and an additional residency in dermatology, also at Mount Sinai Hospital. He received the teacher of the year award at Mount Sinai Department of Dermatology, has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for ten years, and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Kurzman received his undergraduate degree from Yeshiva University and received his medical degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Kurzman completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Maimonides Medical Center. He also completed a residency in dermatology at New York Medical College. Dr. Kurzman is board-certified in both dermatology and internal medicine.Dr. Kurzman is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Kurzman is the co-director of the Division of Dermatology at Staten Island University Hospital and was previously a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at New York Medical College. Dr. Lefkowitz is a summa cum laude graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, where he earned his Medical Degree. As a student at SUNY, he was honored with the prestigious Andrew T. Salzberg Award for Superior Achievement in Medical Studies. His medical internship was completed at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park. Dr. Lefkowitz attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to complete a residency in dermatology. In his final year, he was appointed Chief Resident in Dermatology.To further his postgraduate training, Dr. Lefkowitz served a one-year fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at East Setauket University Hospital, NY. This is an American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (ACMMSCO) approved program for Mohs. Dr. Lefkowitz has authored over a dozen peer-reviewed research papers and presentations on skin cancer and advanced dermatological laser treatments.Dr. Lefkowitz’s practice is primarily surgical. With his precision and expertise, he is especially well regarded for the exceptional and cosmetically elegant way in which he repairs his patients’ Mohs defects. Board certified in both Dermatology and Mohs Microsurgery, Dr. Lefkowitz has been a member of Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery since 2001.
Dr. Kraft earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, magna cum laude, from Columbia College of Columbia University in the City of New York and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa. His interest in plastic and reconstructive surgery began at the Yale University School of Medicine, where he was mentored by Drs. Thomas J. Krizek and Stephan Ariyan, luminaries in academic medicine. His medical school thesis on the effect of preoperative chemotherapy on wound healing was awarded the Gold Prize of the American College of Surgeons for excellence in research. Following graduation from Yale in 1978, Dr. Kraft completed his surgical internship, general surgery residency, a research fellowship and plastic surgery residency at the combined program of Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He served as chief resident in plastic and reconstructive surgery, later becoming a clinical instructor on the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since entering private practice in 1984, Dr. Kraft has performed over 15,000 plastic surgical procedures, covering the entire spectrum of the specialty, from cosmetic to reconstruction. His extensive experience includes special interests in breast augmentation, reduction and lift, abdominoplasty and liposuction as well as the full range of facial aesthetic procedures. He holds lifetime board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a founding member of the New York State Association of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Kraft’s artistic talent, creativity and elegance are apparent in all of his work, whether in the operating room or in his most recent endeavor, a planned book to be entitled “Why Don’t I Look Like My Mommy?”, a child’s guide to plastic surgery.
Dr. Elan B. Singer is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his undergraduate degree in government from Hamilton College and his medical degree from the University of Vermont. Dr. Singer completed plastic and reconstructive surgery training at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York where he remained for further instruction in aesthetic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. Although Dr. Singer practices the full range of plastic and reconstructive surgery, his practice has a particular emphasis on surgery of the breast and body. In particular, he has developed a passion for surgery in the massive weight loss patient. These patients have medical and surgical needs that require specific techniques in order to achieve consistent exceptional results. Dr. Singer has performed reconstructive surgery on patients from all over the world, including surgical missions in foreign countries. He holds an academic appointment at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Singer is also a commissioned officer in the United States Navy Reserve and performs monthly surgeries at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. From the initial meeting through the last postoperative visit, Dr. Singer provides his patients with individualized care and immediate access. Dr. Baldenhofer received his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport and completed his Residency in General Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Baldenhofer then completed a Residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, where he had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s best plastic and reconstructive surgeons. In addition, Dr. Baldenhofer completed a Microvascular Breast and Aesthetic Fellowship at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Baldenhofer is an expert of advanced cosmetic surgery techniques, including liposuction, fat transfers, and cosmetic breast surgery. He is also skilled in post-mastectomy reconstructive breast surgery. Dr. Baldenhofer believes that patients must be treated with the utmost in respect and dignity, taking time to explain all treatments and alleviating any patient concerns. Dr. Baldenhofer has volunteered his expertise in reconstructive cleft lip and palate surgery in developing countries through the non-profit organization Healing the Children.
Dr. Buglino is a Long Island native, raised in Nassau County. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Cornell University as a dual major in Nutrition and Health Services as well as Biology and Society. Dr. Buglino earned his medical degree from the Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale Florida. He completed his general surgery residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, an academic affiliate of the Weill Cornell Medical College, serving his final year as chief resident. As a general surgery resident, he trained extensively at The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Buglino completed a highly competitive post graduate fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, one of only four of its kind. Dr. Buglino has trained with leading surgeons at top medical centers including Jefferson University Hospital, Hahnemann Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Westchester Hospital/New York Medical College, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and The Reading Hospital. Dr. Buglino performs all varieties of plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery. He specializes in body contouring procedures such as liposuction, laser lipolysis with SMART Lipo, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), thigh and arm lifts.
Melissa joined Advanced Dermatology in 1995 and worked as a Medical Assistant for many years. She completed the Physician Assistant Program at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and received her certification before returning to Advanced Dermatology as a Physician Assistant. During her studies at Weill Medical College, she performed clinical rotations in all major fields of medicine, working at various hospitals throughout the New York City region. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Surgical Physician Assistants. Melissa has thorough knowledge of the practice of dermatology, including Mohs skin cancer surgery and has worked with thousands of patients at Advanced Dermatology. With the broad range of conditions that are managed and treated here, she enjoys the variety of her work, with an expertise in acne, warts, mild chemical peels, and laser hair removal. Melissa takes the extra step with all patients to get to know them and their families on a personal level. She treats each patient as if they were a member of her own family: with love, compassion and honesty. She especially appreciates the satisfaction of caring for teens and helping them improve their self-esteem by improving their skin. Melissa is married and has three very active boys. She enjoys movies, reading, cooking, theatre and traveling with her family.
Christopher Byrne, MPAS, RPA-C Physician Assistant
Mr. Byrne has been a Certified Physician Assistant at Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery since 2004. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from New York University, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the New York Institute of Technology. Mr. Byrne also completed a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies with a concentration in dermatology from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. He has completed clerkships in every major branch of medicine, including internal medicine, pediatrics and dermatology. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York Society of Physician Assistants. He is a founding member of the New York Dermatology Physician Assistants, and currently serves as its Vice President. With an innate compassion for others, Mr. Byrne became a Physician Assistant to enable him to help people, particularly with their skin problems. As a teen, he suffered with acne and knows firsthand how skin problems can affect a person’s daily life. Mr. Byrne grew up in the Long Island area, where he and his wife are now raising their children. In their spare time they enjoy outdoor activities such as kayaking and camping.
Ms. Wong is a certified Physician Assistant. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Touro College and continued on to receive her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies, also from Touro College. Ms. Wong has comprehensive experience in medical and cosmetic dermatology for all ages. Her clinical interests include psoriasis, vitiligo, laser treatments, acne, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, biopsies, surgical excisions, Botox injections for hyperhidrosis, and patch testing. Ms. Wong prides herself on providing patients with individualized care, making each patient feel as if they were her only patient.
Karen Duarte is a board certified physician assistant. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the New Jersey State Society of Physician Assistants, and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. Karen Duarte earned her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University. She received her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Piscataway, New Jersey. Karen provides quality care from infants to the elderly. She is also proficient in Spanish.
Ms. Nuzzi grew up on Long Island and went to New York University on scholarship where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Individualized Study. After graduation she spent several years working with traumatic brain injury survivors through the Long Island Head Injury Association. It was there that she realized she loved helping people and working in medicine. She went on to complete a post-baccalaureate pre-medical program and ultimately graduated from the Physician Assistant Program at SUNY Stony Brook. As a physician assistant Ms. Nuzzi spent two years working in plastic surgery at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx before beginning her career in dermatology in 2007. Ms. Nuzzi received extensive training in both general and cosmetic dermatology before joining Advanced Dermatology in 2014. She is a board certified physician assistant and a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
