According to a recent survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery those under 30 are increasingly turning to facial rejuvenation cosmetic procedures to get a head start on preventing wrinkles. Between 2012 and 2013 there was at least a 50% increase in wrinkle relaxer procedures and filler treatments for patients under 30. What treatments are popular and why are younger people getting them?
Those under 30 most frequently seek treatment for dark spots, discoloration, and sun damage. Using IPL (a laser technique) these discolorations can be diminished. A Fraxel laser can also be used to resurface the skin without leaving any scars and without any of the pain associated with traditional laser resurfacing. Chemical peels that remove sun damaged skin layers are another option.
Another treatment done on patients in their 20s is Botox as a preventive measure. By receiving Botox treatments before permanent lines develop between the eyebrows and on the forehead, the severity of these signs of aging that usually appear later can be reduced.
Plastic surgery procedures are often performed on patients in their 20s as well but these usually are unrelated to aging. Breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, and liposuction are all treatments undertaken by this age group.
If you’re under 30 but not ready to undertake a cosmetic procedure to improve the appearance of your skin you may want to consult with your dermatologist to develop a skincare routine that will keep your skin looking great as you age. The wide range of skincare products available to help exfoliate and moisturize your skin can seem daunting. A dermatologist can help you choose the right products and teach you how to use them correctly.
