It is undeniable that people today are under extreme pressure to maintain a youthful appearance, whether it be to help their career or for more general social purposes. This can be seen by the sharp rise in cosmetic procedures performed in the past decade. According to a survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, roughly 30 percent of individuals surveyed are considering a cosmetic procedure, with as many as 90 percent of those procedures to be performed by their dermatologist. What procedures are being sought? And why specifically by the dermatologist?
The survey covered over 6,000 individuals, asking their opinions on cosmetic treatments in general as well as 10 specific procedures, including laser hair removal, injectable fillers and fat removal. 6.4 percent of those surveyed had already undergone cosmetic procedures; however, nearly 30 percent were considering a cosmetic procedure, most of them by their dermatologist. The most common cosmetic procedure under consideration was body sculpting for excess fat; other procedures being conisdered included skin pigmentation correction, facial wrinkle reduction, primarily around the eyes, cheeks, and mouth, and chin reduction. Thanks to technological advancements, many discovered by dermatologists, most of the procedures being sought are minimally-invasive, utilizing lasers or ultrasound. Dermatologists and dermatologic surgeons were highly rated for all these treatments, thanks to their extensive training.
