BOTOX or Fillers? Decisions, Decisions …..

Woman's face, patient at fillers procedureNowadays, many beauty-conscious individuals are intently inspecting the mirror for wrinkles, fine lines, and other noticeable signs of aging on their face. While plastic surgery today is safer than ever, many people are still hesitant to go under the knife. Instead, many opt for injections of BOTOX or injectable fillers to revive their youthful appearance. You may be considering BOTOX or injectable fillers but are overwhelmed by all the choices. What are the choices? And which is best for you? Here are some common injectable fillers:

  • BOTOX is an injection of a purified protein that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It can address frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, the corners of the mouth, the sides of the nose, and frown lines. Upon injection, BOTOX halts muscle activity in the treated areas, smoothing your skin and leaving your wrinkles behind.

  • Dysport contains the active ingredient Botulinum Toxin Type A. Originally intended to treat muscle spasms or neck pain, it can also be used to reduce signs of facial aging in adults below the age of 65. Dysport is injected into several points along the forehead to reduce muscle activity in the area, which reduces wrinkles.

  • BELOTERO BALANCE is a new injectable filler made of hyaluronic acid. While many other injectable fillers are also made of hyaluronic acid, only BELOTERO BALANCE is versatile enough to correct fine lines and wrinkles in difficult areas such as the nasolabial folds as well as gentle areas such as the lip. BELOTERO BALANCE is often used on the corners of the mouth and vertical lip lines.

  • Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus are also made of hyaluronic acid. These injectable fillers add volume to the face, smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines in the process. Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus commonly address signs of aging along the nasolabial folds.

And the Winner Is ….

Each of these injectables (as well as the many others we offer) have unique advantages over other options. It is therefore difficult to pick one as “the best,” as each patient’s goals differ. In addition, certain medical conditions may exclude patients from certain injectables. Ultimately, the only way to determine which injectable is best for a given patient is via a thorough consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists.
