Laser Resurfacing
- Turn back the hands of time.
There’s no need to resign oneself to facial lines, wrinkles, growths or scars. With today’s laser technology, people who want more from their physical appearance can turn back the clock to a time when their skin was smoother, more youthful, and vibrant.
Our doctors at the Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery are experts in the field of laser technology. We have lectured nationally, published extensively, and have served as laser consultants for newspapers, magazines, radio and television. We use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to gently remove the top layers of skin, effectively reorganizing the skin’s structure, and reducing the visible signs of sun damage, scarring and time.
What are lasers and how do they work?
The word LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
Surgical lasers emit short, intense bursts of light, strong enough to vaporize the outer layer of the skin while preserving the underlying skin tissue. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) lasers function at 10,600 nm wavelength, while Erbium lasers operate at 2.94 microns. Depth of penetration can be precisely controlled-even to 30 millionths of an inch.
Smoother and softer skin grows back at the treated area within five to ten days.
What are the benefits of Laser Resurfacing?
- The greatest benefit of laser skin resurfacing is the positive effect that a natural, more youthful appearance can have on an individual’s life and self-confidence.
- Laser resurfacing corrects fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes, creases around the mouth, and smoothes and softens the entire complexion. Some find it helps reduce the size of pores.
- There is no facial distortion or “plastic look” as in some face lifts. Also unlike face lifts, you are given new healthier skin and are apparently at lower risk for skin cancer.
- Uneven pigmentation, and all types of scarring are improved through laser resurfacing. Even stretch marks may be helped by a combination of lasers and creams in a procedure innovated by our doctors.
What kind of results can be expected?
Once the final results appear, resurfacing patients will have a new quality of skin with a fresher, smoother appearance.
In the initial consultation with our doctors, resurfacing candidates should be frank about their expectations and ask any questions they may have. By fully understanding the benefits and risks of the procedure, the patient can make an educated and thoughtful decision.
Recovery Time
Generally, it takes 5 to 7 days for the skin to rejuvenate after resurfacing is done with the Erbium laser and 10 to 14 days with the CO2 laser. A few weeks are generally required for the new skin to lose its pinkness or redness, and to change to its natural color. With CO2 laser, pinkness may last somewhat longer.
Cosmetics may be used to cover any pinkness. While the skin is pink, sun must be strictly avoided.
Cost-Affordability
Our experience and competitive pricing, combined with our patients’ results have made Advanced Dermatology and the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery the leader and best value in laser resurfacing.
