YAG Laser

What Is The YAG Laser?

We all experience it: aging. As time passes, our bodies start to reflect the inevitable wear and tear that life bestows upon us. When we’re young, that accumulated damage hasn’t yet taken hold, and our skin is more resilient. Free-radicals (which make molecules more unstable), sun (heavy radiation), and pollutants can accelerate the effects of aging. Fortunately, there are advanced, such as the YAG laser for skin that can help combat the signs of aging. Individuals with signs of sun damage, wrinkles, and superficial imperfections may be good candidates for a YAG laser treatment.

Benefits

YAG Laser technology, which utilizes highly concentrated beams of light to penetrate the skin and ablate (vaporize) problem areas, can address sun damage, wrinkles, and scars. This technique, known as skin resurfacing, removes the top layers of skin. This allows your body’s natural healing process to take over, and rebuild the damaged areas from scratch. The result is a more youthful look, fewer wrinkles, and the removal of problem areas. A YAG laser skin treatment in New York or New Jersey is a powerful way to improve the overall texture of your skin.

YAG Laser Treatment

A YAG Laser treatment at an Advanced Dermatology, NY and NJ office is relatively straightforward. Your doctor will apply a local anesthetic to the region in question, and then the YAG laser will be carefully directed to the treatment site. Pulses last less than a second; between pulses, a water-based solution is applied to cool the skin and remove any ablated tissues. Depending on the size of the area being treated, more pulses may need to be applied as required. Some patients report a slight stinging or burning sensation during treatment, and, in the majority of patients, there is little to no bleeding.

Recovery time generally depends on how large the treated area is. In the majority of cases, however, skin will be a bit swollen and red in the few days following treatment. We advise that you keep the area cool and rinse with cold water regularly to avoid infection, avoiding any chemicals in the process. In addition, try to avoid direct sunlight, as sun’s radiation can have a negative impact on the skin.
