Ultherapy in Westchester

Ultherapy is an FDA-approved, non-surgical procedure that utilizes ultrasound technology to tighten and rejuvenate the surface of the skin. Ultrasound waves are sent below the surface of the skin, causing tissue to contract and new collagen to form over time. As many patients are aware, collagen is a natural protein that is vital to the youthful appearance of skin, keeping skin toned, firmed, and elastic. As patients age, collagen loses its elasticity and gravity begins to pull the skin downward, leading to looser, wrinkled skin. Ultherapy seeks to counteract this by spurring new collagen production using targeted ultrasound waves. Because the waves are sent below the surface of the skin, the surface is unaffected by the procedure and comes to no harm.

Patients best suited for Ultherapy have mild to moderate loose or sagging skin. Ultherapy should not be considered an alternative to a surgical face or eye lift, but it is an appealing option for patients looking to tighten the skin without the invasiveness of a surgical procedure. By renewing the skin from within, Ultherapy lifts the brow, which then opens up the eyes by reducing excess skin on the lids. Non-invasive Ultherapy promotes the natural rebuilding of a patient’s own collagen fiber network, giving natural, gradual results.

Before the procedure, the patient’s facial tissue will be imaged and examined by the experienced doctors at Advanced Dermatology with office locations in Ridgewood, Westchester, Ossining and Manhattan. This imaging is done to couple the Ultherapy transducer to the skin; the device will then be precisely calibrated to deliver exact thermal coagulation points to the targeted tissues. Most patients experience only mild discomfort during the procedure, and the doctors at Advanced Dermatology can go over pain alleviating options during a consultation. The ultrasound waves induce a healing response from the tissues below the skin, the same foundational tissue layer as is usually addressed by a surgical facelift, ultimately resulting in an increase in production of collagen. As collagen grows beneath the surface of the skin, it will tighten and firm the skin, leading to a more rejuvenated, youthful appearance. Patients experience no downtime, and can resume daily activities immediately after a single, 30-60 minute in-office procedure. The majority of patients only need one treatment, though this may vary according to each patient’s specific skin.

Because the procedure is meant to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production, there are no foreign substances or radical changes. Patients generally see results over the course of two to three months, and the rejuvenating effects from the new collagen last to up to a year after the procedure. However, the body does continue its natural aging process, and thus your dermatologist may recommend follow-up treatments to maintain the results of the initial procedure. Any of the experienced doctors at Advanced Dermatology will be able to advise patients upon the best course of action. Clinics are available throughout New York and New Jersey, including their Summit, NJ and Westchester County locations.
