What is the Selphyl?
Selphyl is a treatment in which PRP (platelet rich plasma), is extracted from your blood, and then injected into the face to stimulate collagen production. With Selphyl physicians are able to enhance the skin’s natural ability to heal
How Does the Treatment Work?
During a short 30-minute procedure there will be three steps:
- A small amount of your own blood is drawn in the office.
- The tube of blood drawn is then put into a centrifuge and spun to separate the platelets and plasma.
- The platelet rich plasma extracted from your blood is then injected back into the skin.
General anesthesia and numbing agents are not necessary for this treatment. You may feel slight discomfort during the procedure as the injections are administered.
Am I a candidate for Selphyl?
Generally most people are candidates for Selphyl. If you have any concerns about your health you can discuss your medical history with a physician prior to the treatment.
What concerns does Selphyl target?
Selphyl can be used for the following:
- Acne Scarring
- Hair Loss
- Skin Rejuvenation
This procedure can be used under the eyes to make them look smoother and help stimulate the production of collagen in the face. It can also be used on the scalp to treat hair loss with studies supporting its moderate effectiveness for this difficult condition.
How Many Treatments Are Necessary?
Patients usually need up to 3 treatments to see a change in their skin. The treatments need to be spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
This natural procedure ultimately has no risk of an allergic reaction because it is using your own blood, meaning there are no foreign substances being utilized. Results can be seen a few weeks after the first treatment, and can last approximately 12-15 months. Selphyl is designed to trigger your body’s natural collagen production which means results will gradually continue to improve over time.
