Sculptra Injections

What is Sculptra?

Time doesn’t slow down for any man or woman. Wrinkles, fine lines around the face, sagging skin, age and sun spots, are all indicators of aging. No one can evade it, but Sculptra can help you soften the appearance of aging. Sculptra is an injectable substance that helps to restore and correct the loss of facial fat beneath the dermis where the signs of aging begin to manifest. Many have called this a liquid face lift.Just a single injection of Sculptra has the potential to begin to hold off some signs of aging but having a few treatments can last up to two to three years. Getting to look younger has never been more appealing or longer lasting than with Sculptra. Sculptra is offered in our many locations across Long Island, NY, Bergen County, NJ and Queens, New York.

What Areas Can Sculptra Be Used For?

Sculptra is currently used on the face to solve several difficult cosmetic problems. The results from using Sculptra are dramatic with increased collagen in the injected site. If you would like to lessen the effect of aging from the problems listed below, you can schedule a consultation today with one of our cosmetic dermatologists who specialize in Sculptra.

  • Flattening nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Smoothing over marionette lines (laugh wrinkles and lines)
  • Filling in hollow and sunken skin (eg. lipoatrophy)
  • Shrinking chin wrinkles
  • Increasing your skin elasticity
  • Tightening sagging skin

These different areas of the face are all signs of aging and the breakdown of collagen. Through a Sculptra injection, it rejuvenates the collagen in your skin, which flattens wrinkles all over the face, fills in any hollow or sunken skin and tightens it. The result is healthier, younger looking skin that belies your age without any marks or scars that you get in surgery.

Sculptra Treatment

Sculptra works by targeting the areas of collagen loss in your skin. Collagen are cells that run throughout your skin and gives your skin the elastic, firm, and healthy look that it has. Over time, your body produces less collagen and there is also fat loss in your skin, which together results in the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Sculptra is an injectable substance that is made up of a synthetic material known as poly-L-lactic acid. Since Sculptra uses a synthetic biocompatible material and not any human or animal components, no allergy testing is required by the FDA or our office. This injectable is not a replacement for your lost collagen but causes new collagen to be formed. It is a safe substance that is naturally absorbed by the body. It revitalizes your old collagen and stimulates new collagen growth, filling lost volume and restoring a more youthful, fuller, younger look.

Sculptra is a gradual process. By injecting poly-L-lactic into those areas where the collagen has decreased, it replaces and restores it to its previous youth through this stimulatory process. If you want a filler with immediate results, you might consider Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm Ultra, or Radiesse.

The process usually takes less than 20 minutes. It may take longer if there are more areas of treatment. The amount of pain varies between people depending on the sensitivity of their skin and the area treated. There might be some initial slight pain at the injection site. After the injection there could be slight bruising, some redness, itching, a little swelling, or even some bleeding. These effects go away after a short period of time though.

Sculptra has been used safely since being approved by the FDA in 1999 for Lipatrophy. In July 2009 it received FDA approval in the use to correct deep nasolabial folds, facial wrinkles and other deficiences.

If you have skin that has an older worn out look, and want healthier looking skin, then you should try Sculptra. It is required to come in for a consultation to go over with our cosmetic dermatologists what exactly you would need, and whether you are an ideal candidate.

Sculptra can be injected into all types of skin, ranging from light/fair skin to darker skin. You should come in for a consultation to find out if there are any pre-conditions that need to be met beforehand or if there are any contraindications.

Results

The results of Sculptra are gradual. Improvements will start to be seen in the treated areas within the first few weeks. The results will be subtle and more noticeable after a few treatments spanning a few months, which allows the poly-L-lactic to stimulate new collagen growth.

After the new collagen has increased, it will start to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, tighten sagging and wrinkly skin, and fill out sunken and hollow skin, leaving you with firmer, youthful skin. These results can last up to two to three years. Touch-ups may be needed periodically to maintain your new youthful appearance.
