Labiaplasty Vaginal Rejuvenation

The labiaplasty procedure involves a range of surgical techniques to help decrease the size of the labia minora (inner tissue of the vagina). You will discuss your labiaplasty goals with your surgeon during your initial consultation to ensure that the desired outcome is achieved.

Advanced Dermatology has a plastic surgeon in New York who can answer any questions you may have about labiaplasty.

Why Labiaplasty?

Females who consider labiaplasty often want to improve the aesthetic appearance of the labia minora as well as reduce the enlarged labia size when it comes to sexual intercourse. In addition to this, females with an enlarged labia often struggle with exercise, urinary tract infections, sexual and physical activities, which might be improved with surgery.

Labiaplasty Procedure

The procedure is done under anesthesia and can be performed as day surgery at any one of our NY surgeries.

Technique advancement and improved technology has resulted in several labiaplasty surgery techniques. These days the most common procedures are:

  • The Trim Procedure: During this procedure the excess parts of the labia minora is removed and stitched to ensure symmetry with the labia majora.
  • The Wedge Procedure: During this procedure the thickest part of the labia minora is removed, giving the vagina a more natural look.

Your surgeon will discuss any other techniques with you that may be relevant to your desired outcome.

Ideal Candidates for Labiaplasty

The ideal candidate for labiaplasty is in good health, has realistic outcomes and is of sound mind. In addition the following criteria must be considered:

  • Displeased with the look, size and feel of the labia.
  • Experiences physical discomfort.

Labiaplasty Recovery

The labia is a very sensitive area of the female body and whilst most swelling is expected to be gone within six weeks, it is possible for residual swelling to take up to six months to disappear.

Your surgeon will discuss your post-operative recovery and give detailed instructions to be followed with great care to ensure optimum healing. These instructions may include:

  • How to apply topical ointment or take oral medication.
  • How to care for your surgical site.
  • Follow up consultation with your surgeon.

It is also advisable to avoid the use of tampons and abstaining from sex for 4 to 6 weeks. In addition you should wear loose clothing, take salt baths and stay away from exercise and rigorous activities during your recovery.
