“The perfect man”, no it’s not a pitch for E-Harmony, we are actually talking about the growing trend of men having cosmetic treatments done. Men, just like women are focusing more and more on holding onto that youthful appearance.
Statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery state there has been an increase in both surgical and non-surgical procedures in the past 5 years, over 40%. In 2014 alone 13,000,000 minimally/non-invasive cosmetic procedures were performed.
The top 3 options according to the ASAPS were:
Botulinum Toxin (up 84%)
Hyaluronic Acid (up 94%)
Non-surgical tightening (up 37%)
Specifically, the number of men getting minimally/non-invasive treatments has increased a large amount since the early 2000s.
These are some of the popular areas of treatment for men:
Love handles Our Solution: CoolScultping – This non-invasive form of fat reduction enlists the help of a freezing technique known as Cryolipolysis. The treatment precisely targets fat cells leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. The frozen fat cells are then naturally released through the body in the months following the procedure. Patients generally begin to notice changes within two weeks, but it takes about 3 months to see major results. Depending on the area it may take more than one session to treat. Non-surgical fat reduction, like CoolSculpting, has increased up to 40% in recent years.
Thinning hair Our Solution: One of the newest treatments to our list of services, Selphyl. Most times this procedure is referred to as the “Vampire Facial” but the treatment areas don’t start and stop with the face. Selphyl can be administered into the scalp to promote tissue regeneration for hair growth. So how does it work exactly? The 30 minute procedure starts with the physician drawing the patient’s blood, from this PRP (platelet rich plasma) is extracted. The PRP is then injected back into the treatment area, in this case the scalp. Generally patients need 3 treatments spaced one month apart for maximum results.
Sweat (Hyperhidrosis) Our Solution: miraDry. If excessive sweat is affecting your daily activities you should consider trying the miraDry treatment. This non-invasive procedure uses electromagnetic energy to get rid of underarm sweat glands. After two one-hour treatments there is an 82% reduction in sweating. You may also want to consider Botox injections.
Sunken under eye area Our Solution: Injectable fillers. Most times when a person considers injectable fillers they associate it with plumping the lips or fighting wrinkles, but you’d be surprised the multitude of issues fillers address, for example sweating! Fillers available for sunken under eyes: Restylane
Loose skin (predominantly around the neck) Our Solution: Ulthera / Thermage. Both of these popular treatments are non-invasive options to tighten loose or sagging skin. One of the major reasons people suffer from this is because the collagen under the skin begins to break down as we get older, these treatments stimulate the growth of collagen which in turn tightens the skin back over time. The difference? Ulthera utilizes an ultrasound technology to get below the skin, whereas Thermage uses Capacitive Radiofrequency (CRF) to reach beneath.
Wrinkles Our Solution:Injectable fillers. We all age, it is an inevitable thing, and at some point in our lives we begin to form wrinkles. Many people, including men, are trying to reverse the unsightly lines that find their way onto our face, neck and hands. We offer a full range of injectable fillers that diminish the appearance of wrinkles, if done early enough it can also delay the formation of wrinkles all together. Fillers available: Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, Dysport, Botox and Belotero. Patients should also consider one of our newest treatments the Collagen P.I.N. a minimally-invasive treatment that stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin. It is reported that this procedure treats deep wrinkles among other skin concerns.
Double Chin Our Solution: Kybella/CoolMini. One of the most stubborn areas of fat is the double chin, let’s face it – there isn’t a machine at the gym next to the elliptical claiming to blast the fat under there. Although exercise is not an option there are cosmetic treatments available. The same company that provides CoolScuplting for the body has recently announced their freezing technique can now be used for the chin! Another option for this area is also recently new to our practice, Kybella. It uses an injection that is almost identical to a chemical in the body that naturally helps absorb fat. By injecting this into the area below the chin, Kybella destroys the fat cells permanently.
The treatments listed above have little to no-downtime post treatment, so patients are able to get back to your daily activities immediately!
