Making Art from Images of the Skin

Making Art from Images of the Skin

The-art-of-skin

Recently featured in Dermatology Times, artist Nick Franco is turning common histopathology photographs (microscopic studies of the skin) into works of art. His paintings are based on inspiration from his father, a dermatologist, who showed Franco how images of various skin diseases look under a microscope. By taking these images and altering different aspects like orientation and color Franco transforms them into something that is more than medically useful (although a trained dermatologist could still identify some of the diseases).
