It’s normal for varicose veins to cause you extreme discomfort and frustration, but luckily there are a number of things you can do to alleviate some of the pain. One of the best practices you can do is to elevate your legs. From relaxing in the warm weather outdoors to gaining comfort from your office chair, here is a lowdown on how elevating your legs can help:

Give Varicose Veins a Break.
Give your varicose veins a break by taking the pressure of gravity off of them. Instead, let your arteries do a little more of the work – they can handle it! Put your feet up for a while on an elevated lounge chair or a couch while reading a good book or doing whatever else relaxes you. Crossing your legs can put even more pressure on them, so try to avoid that position as you recline.

Elevate and Exercise.
You can also help relieve the discomfort of varicose veins by exercising. Pointing and flexing your feet about 10 to 15 times can greatly improve blood circulation – just don’t forget to change direction after 30 seconds. These easy exercises are something you can do while breathing in the fresh springtime air.

Treating Veins on the Job.
If you need to sit at your desk all day, know that you can still get relief. If there are extra boxes laying around, use them to elevate your legs on and try doing similar leg exercises we discussed above. To gain even more relief of varicose veins, bend your legs at the knee a few times every hour.

Whether you’re spending time outside or working long hours at your job, you can control the aches and pains of your varicose veins with these simple low-impact leg exercises, and just by elevating them.
