Red light emitted by the Palomar E2000 System is absorbed by the dark pigment found in hair follicles. The laser is “pulsed” or turned on, for only a fraction of a second – just long enough to disable the follicle. While the laser energy is delivered, the unique contact-cooling handpiece helps protect the skin through conductive cooling.
Multiple treatments are generally required. The actual number depends on the color of your hair and skin, as well as factors such as hormone levels and hair follicle size. Your hair removal center will develop a treatment program that best fulfills your individual needs.
While you may feel a slight tingling sensation, most people tolerate the procedure very well. Because some areas of the body are more sensitive than other, you may choose to have a topical anesthetic applied to increase comfort during the procedure.
After effects vary from patient to patient. Typically, within several minutes, the treated are may become slightly red and puffy. This reaction subsides quickly, usually within a day. Since the Palomar E2000 System does not cut the skin in any way, you can return to normal activity immediately
While quick and easy, shaving is a short-term fix. It requires frequent upkeep, can cause skin irritation, and often leads to nicks, cuts, or razor burns.
Effective for small areas, tweezing is painful and impractical for larger treatment zones. Plus, the plucked hair always grows back.
These creams dissolve hair at the surface but offer only temporary results. They’re often messy and may cause skin irritation or chemical burns if left on too long.
Waxing removes larger areas of hair and can last for several weeks, but it’s painful, can trigger allergic reactions, and may lead to inflammation or ingrown hairs.
Electrolysis targets individual follicles with electrical currents. While effective in skilled hands, it’s an extremely slow process, especially for larger areas.
Looking for a faster, less painful, and more permanent solution? Laser hair removal offers long-lasting results without the mess, pain, or constant maintenance of traditional methods.
Another temporary solution. This messy procedure requires a significant time commitment and must be repeated about once a week. Caution: if depilatories are left on too long, they can cause severe skin irritation or even chemical burns.
Waxing can cover large skin areas and may last for a month or more. Yet this procedure is painful and can cause allergic reaction as well as prolonged inflammation of the hair follicle.
This procedure involves sticking a needle into each hair follicle and applying an electric current. In expert hands, electrolysis can successfully eliminate hair. But because you can treat only one hair follicle at a time it’s tedious and time-consuming.

The Palomar E2000 system resulted from years of research at Wellman Laboratories of photomedicine, part of the Massachusetts General Hospital – one of the world’s leading medical research institutions. After careful scientific study of hair follicle anatomy, researchers precisely matched laser output to the size, depth and location of hair follicles within the skin.
Palomar’s unique sub-zero contact-cooling handpiece is designed to conduct heat away from the skin before, during and after each laser pulse. This cooling process protects the skin and minimizes discomfort. Palomar’s TwinPulse T mode provides maximum laser absorption, while giving the skin extra time to cool between pulses.
Treatments using the Palomar E2000 System are faster than those provided by any other technique, including earlier laser procedures. The large 3/4 (20-mm) square spot size means that even large body areas (like back and legs) can be covered quickly. The table to the right shows the speed of the Palomar E2000 System. Compared with electrolysis, which can take 15 seconds or more per hair, laser hair removal is the fast alternative! It is even faster than waxing and much more effective
Permanent hair reduction is defined as a long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs that grow back after a treatment regime. Such hair reduction after at least one complete growth cycle (4-12 months, depending on anatomical location) is considered permanent hair reduction. Clinical trials performed at Massachusetts General Hospital have shown that most people treated with appropriate energies achieve 10-50% permanent hair reduction following each treatment.
