What is the MedLite Laser?

Sun spots, or lentigines, are regions with darkened pigmentation, usually appearing on our hands, chest, and face, and occur when when we increase our exposure to the sun. Unlike many skin problems, they’re not limited to aging, and can happen at any age and with any skin-type. Generally speaking, those with lighter skin tones tend to be more susceptible.

Melasma, by comparison, is a condition that causes a similar darkened pigmentation, but the cause tends to be more hormonal in nature. What’s occurring at the cellular level is an overproduction of melanocytes, where the number of melanin-producing cells are clustered.

The result of both of these conditions is a greater level of melanin in the affected region, and unwanted dark spots develop a consequence.

The MedLite laser is arguably considered to be the best and most versatile laser in the industry. It’s used to safely lighten sun spots, darkened pigments, and improve uneven skin tones, such as melasma. In addition, it’s considered a go-to technology for tattoo removal. At Advanced Dermatology, we have developed a MedLite laser protocol for our New York and New Jersey patients with with pigmentation problems.

Benefits of the MedLite Laser

At Advanced Dermatology in New York and New Jersey, we apply MedLite Laser technology to break down darkened pigmentation and tattoos. Like other medical lasers, MedLite uses differing wavelengths (532nm and 1064nm), depending on the depth, to break down melanin and other pigments. In addition, because the MedLite laser treatment is non-invasive, the costs and downtime associated with it are minimized. Some key advantages to MedLite include:

  • Safe for all skin types
  • Versatile
  • Fast treatments, with little to no recovery time

Due to this technology’s broad use across the industry, MedLite can be applied to all skin types, and patients typically come to us with a wide range of conditions. For those seeking tattoo removal, this is also an excellent tool.

MedLite Laser Treatment

Treatment for pigment removal is simple and easy. During our exclusive MedLite laser treatments in NYC and NJ, our doctor will deliver a series of light pulses to the affected area, which are then absorbed by the pigments within the cells. The pigment then breaks down and metabolizes, eventually flushing out of the body via its natural waste system.

Downtime and Results

Downtime is relatively non-existent, and there are no major side effects the MedLite laser technology. Some patients experience some slight redness following treatments, but this typically tends to be the worst case scenario and clears up shortly.

Results, however, tend to be a little longer, and can usually be seen within a week or two. Subsequent sessions cause noticeable improvements to the affected areas.
