Other Keloid Treatment Methods

A keloid forms when scar tissue continues to develop once a wound has already been sealed. Keloids grow above the skin and are usually pink or purple in appearance. While keloids may be tender or itchy, they are typically harmless. Numerous treatment methods are currently available for keloid scars; however, most require multiple treatment sessions or only provide short-term results.

What is Cryoshape?

Cryoshape is an innovative new treatment for keloids utilizing a cold cryoprobe to destroy the keloid’s cells. This is done through the insertion of a needle into the keloid.

What skin types can be treated with Cryoshape?

Cryoshape can safely and effectively treat keloids on all skin types.

Who is a good candidate for Cryoshape?

Thanks to its minimally-invasive nature, Cryoshape is good for most people with keloids, including children. To find out if your keloids can benefit from Cryoshape, schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists.

What happens during a Cryoshape treatment session?

Before a Cryoshape treatment session, local anesthesia is administered to the treatment area(s) and no incisions are required. Most patients find Cryoshape to be a painless treatment, lasting between 10 and 60 minutes depending on the size of their keloid.

How many Cryoshape treatment sessions are necessary?

Most patients require only one Cryoshape treatment session to achieve satisfactory results. During your consultation, your dermatologist will determine the best treatment method based upon your specific keloid(s).

How much downtime is required after Cryoshape?

Patients can leave the dermatologist’s office immediately after their Cryoshape treatment. It is recommended that patients wait a day before resuming regular activities; however, they can be resumed immediately if desired. Your dermatologist may provide you with instructions specific to your situation.

How effective is Cryoshape?

Over 97% of Cryoshape patients experience significant reduction in the size and appearance of their keloids with no recurrence. Most patients enjoy these results from just one treatment session.

Are there any risks associated with Cryoshape?

Cryoshape is a safe treatment, with virtually no associated risks. In extremely rare instances, patients may experience mild pigmentation changes.
